This year, the Pavillon Carré de Baudoin celebrates its 10th anniversary. For the occasion, the cultural space is devoting an exhibition to a key figure in the history of French photography, the humanist photographer Willy Ronis. 

His photos draw up a kind of intimate and deep portrait of society and of the time. He places Man at the center of his work, generally confronted with the harshness of the time, with many images on the world of work and workers' struggles. They constitute a journey which gives to see, to understand and to love people in the ordinary of their daily life.

From 1985, Willy Ronis selects what he considers to be the essentials of his work, brought together around a series of six albums, which are the matrix of this exhibition. He thus constituted his “photographic testament”, which he bequeathed to the State at the end of his life. Each photograph is accompanied by very detailed reflections and comments on the circumstances of the shooting and the equipment used.

A second selection was then made by the organizers of the event, people who knew him and who appreciate his work. In the end, nearly two hundred images, made between 1926 and 2001, are exhibited. The public will also be able to leaf through the albums from terminals made up of interactive tablets.

In addition, a series of films and videos made on Willy Ronis will be screened in the auditorium, on the ground floor and upstairs, according to a specific program. A unique opportunity to enter fully into the artist's personal universe.
