Born in 1964 Gilles de Beauchêne has been an advertising photographer for over 25 years. In order to escape the shackles of the 'brief' imposed by the client, he built in 2006 an artistic work made of creations taken from his imagination, not series but images which from year to year reveal the themes which occupy him or obsessed for 10 years like advertising/propaganda tool, modernity vs tradition, his phobia of insects, abandonment and confinement or even a fascination for the multi-faceted woman sometimes angel, seducer or dominatrix. He does very little photography a year because from the idea to the realization it can take several months to gather the ideal team. He always starts by drawing his project, then gathers all the elements that will constitute his final image, several days of shooting are often necessary. In his studio, a team of 4-5 people work together; a stylist, the model, hairdresser, makeup artist, model maker, 3D design. It's a long job to recompose the image, Gilles experienced the transition from film to digital, he perfectly masters his lights in the studio and the digital tools of today. He is only satisfied when he has found the perfect light, the right colors, consistent shadows, and how to integrate each part with the others, like in a puzzle.
